The world of Clockwork Gears is one where civilization is built atop an endless lattice of interlocking mechanisms. Every bridge, every door, every safe passage is held in place by a network of brass and iron cogs that grind ceaselessly. The player's character is a small figure navigating this industrial maze, where the environment itself is both the puzzle and the predator.
The design philosophy treats the clockwork not as decoration but as the antagonist. Gears do not merely block a path; they rotate, shift, and collapse on cycles the player must read and exploit. A gear that grinds past a gap for two seconds is a window. A pressure plate that releases a pendulum is a countdown. The world breathes in mechanical rhythms, and the player must find their own rhythm within it.
In Their Own Story
The corridor smells of oil and hot metal. You crouch behind a half-buried piston, watching the great flywheel overhead complete its slow rotation. One full turn. You count the teeth clicking past the housing. Three more teeth, and the grinding stops. Three more teeth, and the floor beneath you is a gap.
You run. The gap swallows your shadow. The flywheel groans back to life behind you, and the next corridor is already shifting, gears meshing where walls used to be. You have four seconds. You always have four seconds.

Gear-Shift Corridors: The player sees a long hallway lined with large rotating cogs. The core challenge is reading the rotation cycle and crossing during the brief window when a gear clears the path. Failure means being crushed or ground, resulting in an instant restart at the corridor's start.
